2013 Spring/Summer: Stripes

April 6th, 2013

Stripes.  You probably have noticed tons of stripes lately and you will continue to see them during your spring/summer shopping.  There are different types of stripes for whatever your preference might be.  Thick, thin, a combination of the two, subtly contrasted, highly contrasted, vertical, horizontal…you get the point!  If you want them, you can find them.

A side note on horizontal stripes…they are great for creating volume.  So, if you are slender and want added volume, this is great.  If you do not want added volume, but you still like stripes, you can pair a horizontally striped shirt with a little jacket or cardigan and the stripes will still be seen just not in their entirety!

THE TAKE-AWAY:  Stripes are a pattern, so if you need to add some visual interest to your wardrobe this could be your ticket.  This could also be a strategy for implementing some color into your closet!  Have fun and be mindful of what kind of stripe might be best for you!

2013 Spring/Summer: Bermuda Shorts

April 4th, 2013

Bermuda shorts are longer in length than the average pair of shorts.  When purchasing Bermuda shorts, be certain to buy a pair that fits well and isn’t too loose.  Adding a loose fit to the length of Bermuda shorts will cause you to not look your best.  You want the material to skim the shape of your leg.

THE TAKE-AWAY:  You will find Bermuda shorts in neutral shades and also in some rockin’ fun colors!  If you struggle implementing color into your wardrobe, the coming season is the perfect time!  This is a colorful time of year, so you can add some pops of color without feeling like you are standing out too much!

An addendum:  If you are buying Bermuda shorts in plus sizes…same thing goes for you…not too loose!  I know sometimes you can feel tempted to try and “hide” your shape, but don’t!  You certainly don’t want your shorts to be too tight, but you want them to fit your shape as to not add bulk.  I would also encourage you to have fun with color when purchasing Bermuda shorts.  To keep attention on the outfit as a whole, as opposed to just your shorts, choose colors you are comfortable with.  If you are adventurous…go for it!  If you are a little apprehensive, try a darker shade of a fun color (royal blue, emerald green, crimson red).  In the example photos, lots of the women have their shirts tucked in (I think it is to see the shorts in their entirety).  I wouldn’t recommend that look for a plus size woman…mostly because it will most likely end up looking fuddy duddy!

2013 Spring/Summer

April 4th, 2013

The warmer temperatures are quickly approaching…for some of us!  I know some of you are still in the middle of cool weather, but the sun will eventually come for you too!  I wanted to let you in on a few wearable trends for 2013 spring and summer.  You can easily add one or two of these to your wardrobe and feel right on trend…NOT trend-y…two different things!  I do not feel like every person needs to be “trendy.”  That is a style choice all your own…I digress!

So, here you go:

  • Bermuda shorts
  • Bold stripes
  • Black and white color combination
  • Beaded detailing

Over the next few days, I will be posting some example pictures and helpful tips for wearing these “trends.”  Stay tuned!

THE TAKE-AWAY:  Try something new!  Even if it only makes it into the dressing room! Be adventurous and try something on you normally never would.  It’s fun and sometimes surprising!

Getting Dressed Made Easy

December 20th, 2012

Having prearranged outfits in your closet is fun and takes less time when getting ready.  I catalog outfits with pictures, so I don’t forget them (I often will forget what I wore two days prior).  There are two ways you can do this.  First, if you wear an outfit one day and realize you really like it, snap a quick picture.  The second thing you can do, go to your closet and take time to create outfits (when doing this, FULLY create the outfit: pick out shoes, accessories…finish the look).  This way, there is no fussing involved when you decide to wear that outfit.  Then lay the items on the floor so you can clearly determine what items they are and snap a picture!  I enjoy doing this because I will purpose to use an item that I might quickly overlook in a frenzy.

If this idea stresses you out…I can help!  I am running a holiday special!  If you schedule any session with me before January 15th, you will receive the first hour free and every hour after that at $20 (minimum 2 hour sessions).
